Once practitioners are accepted on to the Statutory Register, they are required to maintain and update their knowledge and skills by further study. What is an adjustment? This is the name given to the manipulation ('hands-on') procedure provided by the Chiropractor. Controlled pressure is applied at specific angles to painlessly correct joint alignment or mobility and enable healing. How long does a treatment session last and how long is a course of treatment? Treatment sessions normally take about 15 minutes, however the initial consultation can vary between 1/2 to 3/4 of an hour. The Chiropractor will advise each patient on the course of treatment necessary. This often can vary with each particular condition. For example, 5-6 treatments may be suitable for a simple case of low back pain. However for a long-standing (chronic) condition of the same, more treatments may be necessary (6 - 12 is typical). How long will it take to get better? It depends upon each individual case, everyone is different. Factors to consider are: Will my Doctor approve? GP's are generally becoming more aware of chiropractic and the benefits that can be achieved. You do not require a GP's referral before visiting a chiropractor. We do receive lots of referrals from GP's and appreciate their acknowledgement of our expertise, likewise we sometimes have to send patients to their GP for conditions outside of our scope of practice.
